Sexual harassment

Talk is cheap. Some times, the company’s sexual harassment policy is not worth the paper it’s written on.

Fox News just fired a prominent on air reporter for sending lewd text messages. He had a long history of crude behavior that was overlooked by management. When I tell folks that I represent clients who are the target of sexual harassment, they can be naively surprised and may say, “I can’t believe people still do that!” To which I reply, “Are you surprised people still steal cars?” These creeps don’t go away just because companies have written sexual harassment policies. Sadly, these policies are not worth the paper they are written on, as evidenced by how frightened victims are to come forward against powerful people. Too many companies have anything but a zero tolerance policy. Companies have a long, long way to go.
